The Woodlands, Texas – December 30, 2015 – The Scrap Yard Dawgs are excited to announce the signing of former Texas A&M University pitcher, Rachel Fox. Fox comes to the Dawgs as one of the first signees for the 2016 inaugural season. The Sugar Land native transferred to Aggieland after two years at Texas. She finished her college career with a solid 70-29 record, a 2.71 ERA and 517 strikeouts between the two schools.
"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to continue to play the game of softball after my college career. I am especially excited to represent my hometown of Houston, in front of local fans, friends and family. The expansion into the Houston market is a big step for the NPF and the growth of women’s softball. I look forward to playing this summer. Go Dawgs!" said Fox.
In her senior campaign, Fox not only led her Aggies in the circle but in the community as well. Fox earned the honor of being added to the SEC Community Service team for her service in many organizations and countless volunteer hours in her College Station community.
Fox was instrumental in 2015, helping the Aggies earn a two seed to the NCAA Regional in Norman, Oklahoma. The Aggies ended their season with an impressive 40-20 record after advancing to the Regional finals led by Fox in the circle.
“I’ve known and watched Rachel since her sophomore year in high school and it is gratifying to see a player like her continue to grow, mature and improve,” said General Manager, Kevin Shelton. “Rachel has got the right mindset to be successful in this league. She’ll be solid in the circle and in the community. Rachel will be an excellent ambassador for the game, the NPF and the Scrap Yard Dawgs.”
While growing up in Sugar Land, Rachel Fox was a four-year letter winner at Fort Bend Baptist Academy. During her time at Fort Bend Baptist, Fox was named Texas Gatorade Player of the Year two consecutive years, was a four-time Texas All-State player and was named the 2010 Houston Chronicle Player of the Year.
The Scrap Yard Dawgs will kick off their inaugural season on the road against the reigning NPF champions, the Chicago Bandits, on June 2, 2016. For more information and questions about the Scrap Yard Dawgs, visit scrapyarddawgs.com. You can also follow the Dawgs on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
