The Woodlands, Texas – January 27, 2016 – The Scrap Yard Dawgs are pleased to announce the signing of Meagan May Whitley. A Spring, Texas native, May Whitley grew up playing in the backyard of where the Dawgs will compete this summer. The Texas A&M graduate will reunite with former Aggie teammate, Rachel Fox and USA teammate, Christi Orgeron.
The former Aggie put up impressive offensive numbers during her time in College Station. She had a career batting average of .323 and a .748 slugging percentage. May Whitley currently holds the record for career homeruns (69) and RBIs (189), while being ranked second in career walks (168) and total bases (424). Her powerful presence at the plate earned her several prestigious awards. The Aggie was named to the All-Big 12 first team, Big 12 All-Tournament team and to the Louisville Slugger NFCA All-American second team in her freshman season. The accolades continued on throughout her career as she was added to the All-College Station Regional team in 2011, All-Big 12 Second team in 2012, the All-College Station Regional team in 2012 and the NFCA Louisville Slugger All-Central Region second team in 2012.
“I couldn’t be more grateful to the Scrap Yard Dawgs Organization and the NPF for the opportunity to play the sport I love at the highest possible level. I am excited to have the chance to play for a team from my hometown, and I can’t wait for June to get here,” said May Whitley.
May Whitley also spent time on the USA Women’s National team. In 2011, the Aggie won a gold medal in the Pan American Games in Guadalajara. She was also a 2012 USA Women’s National Team selection camp invitee. May Whitley’s experience behind the plate will help the Dawgs’ pitching staff in their inaugural season.
“Adding another local player is always fun and good for the fans,” said Dawgs General Manager Kevin Shelton. “Meagan has generated offensive numbers at every level she has played. I feel good about how the roster is shaping up. The talent that we have acquired already, helps tighten our focus for scouting and the draft. We are in good shape.”
