The Woodlands, TX – February 2, 2016 – The Scrap Yard Dawgs are pleased to announce the signing of Britt Vonk. A native of Enschede, Netherlands, Vonk will be the first foreign player to be signed to The Scrap Yard Dawgs Roster.

A four-time letterman with the California Golden Bears (2011-2013; 2015). She posted a .369 career batting average where she batted an impressive .421 in her senior campaign. In her offensive career as a Golden Bear she also had 235 hits, 71 RBIs, a .459 on base percentage, and 58 stolen bases in 213 games. Due to her being a staple player for the Bears, she received several awards during her tenure including Pac-10 All-Freshman Team (2011), the All-Pac-10 Second Team (2011), NFCA All-Pacific Region First Team (2011), and NFCA All-Pacific Second Team SS (2015).

“I am very honored and grateful to play for the Scrap Yard Dawgs this upcoming season and very excited to have the opportunity to play on the highest level” says Vonk. “I'm thrilled to continue playing the game of softball after my college career with the Cal Bears and I can't wait to share the field with this new group of players and coaches. Go Dawgs!”

In addition to an impressive collegiate career, Vonk is also an Olympian. She played for the Dutch National Team at the 2008 Olympics and was the youngest athlete on the team at age 17. She was also recognized in 2008 as the best hitter at the Mastenbroek Tournament and awarded the Bep van Beijmerwerdt Trophy as the most talented youth Dutch player.

“Britt is a nice addition to our roster.  Her international experience added to the time she spent competing in the PAC-12 will certainly help” says Dawgs GM Kevin Shelton. “She adds valued depth in the middle infield and important versatility to the squad.  We continue to be pleased about how the team is coming together ahead of the draft.”
