Former Chicago Bandits Head Coach Steuerwald Named Dawgs Assistant General Manager for 2017

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS, April 16, 2016 – General Manager Connie May announced today that Mike Steuerwald, former Head Coach of the Chicago Bandits, will be the Scrap Yard Dawgs Assistant General Manager for the 2017 Season.
 
When asked about Mike joining the organization, GM Connie May said “I am very excited to bring Steuerwald’s level of knowledge and experience to our staff. He is a proven champion and has won two back-to-back NPF Championships as a Head Coach which proves he has an amazing understanding of what it takes to win. I think he will work very well with the staff we have put in place and I expect great things this Season.”
 
“I am excited about the opportunity to become a part of the Scrap Yard Organization,” said Steuewald. “I look forward to joining this franchise and to help the Ownership and the Coaching Staff build a winning tradition in every facet.”
 
Mike is entering his eighth season in the National Pro Fastpitch League. He began his NPF career as an assistant coach for the Rockford Thunder in 2009 and then served as the Bandits assistant from 2010 to 2013. He was honored as part of the NPF Coaching Staff of the Year in 2010 as an assistant to Head Coach Mickey Dean and helped lead the Bandits to their fifth regular season Championship in six seasons. As an assistant coach under Darrick Brown in 2011, he helped guide Chicago to their second NPF Championship as a franchise. In 2014, he was named the Head Coach of the Chicago Bandits and proceeded to win back-to-back Cowles Cups.
 
Prior to joining the Bandits, he served as the Head Coach at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo, California before heading to Elon University to serve as the assistant softball coach until 2013.
 
Originally from Los Angeles, California, he graduated from Marantha Baptist Bible College with a degree in Physical Education. At MBBC, Steuerwald played both baseball and football, and was a two-year captain for the baseball team.
