THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS, January 23, 2017 – General Manager Connie May announced today that the Dawgs have signed former Dallas Charge outfielder and ULL All-American, Brianna Cherry through the 2018 Season.
“In addition to her power at the plate and agility in the outfield, Brianna brings NPF experience and leadership to this team that is second to none,” said GM Connie May. “We’re excited to add another superior athlete and role model to young girls, and we can’t wait to see what Brianna does for us this season, both on and off the field.”
Cherry will be entering her fifth season in the NPF after two seasons with the Dallas Charge Organization including their 2015 Inaugural Season. Prior to the Charge, Cherry played for the Akron Racers after being drafted by them in the 2013 NPF Draft from the University of Louisiana Lafayette.
During her NPF Career, Cherry has posted a .228 average that includes 59 hits, 7 doubles, and 4 home runs. In her tenure, she has amassed 22 RBI’s, 56 total bases and a .301 slugging percentage.
Prior to joining the NPF, Brianna was a standout Centerfielder for the Ragin’ Cajuns of ULL. During her college career, she posted a .263 average and had a .328 average in her final three seasons. Cherry also boasted 161 hits, 17 doubles, 7 triples, and 24 home runs in her career. Her stats included 117 RBI’s, 264 total bases, and a .417 slugging percentage. Born in Tampa, Florida, and raised in Petal, Mississippi, she comes from a softball family. Her cousin and ULL teammate, Nerissa Myers, is an All-NPF Second Baseman for the Scrap Yard Dawgs.
When asked about her thoughts on joining the Dawgs, Cherry said, “I am so excited to be signed by the Scrap Yard Dawgs! To be able to play with this organization is most certainly a blessing. I believe this season will showcase some of the most talented athletes that this league has to offer. I am also grateful to play alongside my cousin, Nerissa Myers, once again.”
