Mississippi State Bats:
The Texas native speedster made a name for herself at Mississippi State as a consistent threat both on the base path and on the field. In her freshman debut Winkfield ended the season third-best on the team with 17 stolen bases. She registered 10 hits, 6 walks, 17 runs scored, a .333 average at the plate while also helping snap a 21-game losing streak against No. 12 LSU as a pinch runner when she stole a base and scored the game-winning run. The following year Kayla was good for third-best on the team in stolen bases (13) and putouts (106 at shortstop) and second-best in assists (58). In her junior year the stand-out shortstop ended the season hitting .331 good enough for second-team best in hits (57) and third-best in doubles (9) and triples (4). Kayla finished her career as a Bulldog as one of her best in 2016 when she led the SEC in triples (6) and triples per game (0.11). The senior put up a .330 average in the box with 59 hits, 36 runs scored, 17 stolen bases, and a .438 slugging percentage.
